The Registration Mode dropdown on your season tells the system what to do with the classes once your season Online Registration Start Date has come.
By default, the system will select "Students can enroll in classes online". This means that when your online registration start date gets here, that season will show up for online registration in the parent portal and students can register for classes that are available for them.
To set the Registration Mode for a season go to More > Seasons and select your season. This option is found here:

The next option in the Registration Mode dropdown is "Only enroll in the Registration Manager". This means that students will not see that season in your portal, but you can register students when you go to Magic > Registration Manager.
The last two options in the dropdown include an option for a preview of classes in your portal. A preview means that the season shows up in your parent portal online registration screen but students cannot enroll, they can just see the classes they are eligible for. The first preview option is "Let students see a preview of classes online".

With this option selected, a student can see classes in online registration but cannot check a box to enroll and cannot schedule a trial so their registration screen would look similar to this.

The next preview option is "Let students see a preview of classes and register for trials".

With this selected, a student would see classes they are eligible for but cannot enroll in the classes online. However, they would see the option to schedule a trial if you have trials turned on for those classes. So their registration screen would look similar to below where there is no checkbox to enroll but there is a link to schedule a trial.
