To let previous students have priority to register before new students you will set an Open Enrollment Date on your season.
Start by going to More > Seasons and selecting your season. Set the Online Registration Start Date to be the date you want PREVIOUS students to start registering online.

Scroll down and set the Open Enrollment Date to be the date you want NEW students to be able to register for this season, then save your changes.

You have different options for how to check if a student is new or returning. The first choice is if you want to check by an individual student or by family. If you check by student, the system looks to see if that certain student has taken classes before and if they have they can register early. If you check by family, then if any sibling in the family has taken classes before then they can all register at the early date.

The next option is what classes the system should look at. By default, the system will check to see if the student has ever taken a class with you. If you want to be more selective you can click the "Change" option for the enrollment history.

This option allows you to tell the system to only let students that took classes in a certain season be able to register early.
